Kratie Vignettes II

There is always a Wat.  This was, of course, a Khmer wat, brightly painted murals depicting the life of the Buddha.  It is remarkably similar to the pictorial histories of Christ in European cathedrals.  When most of the prospective flock is illiterate, you have to get the sales pitch across somehow.

Here a Wat, there a Wat.  This one, near Kratie Town, is Wat and meditation center.  It seems that more than a handful of westerners have spent time here.  They have also donated money to keep things freshly painted.  There were lots of construction projects under way, although the only actual work was being done by a pair of monkeys using the scaffolding for a jungle gym.

Oh, and like any Wat worth its salt, there were stairs.  Lots and lots of stairs.

The monks head off on their alms rounds.  OK, the statues don't really move, but they do have inordinately long fingers.

When you climb the stairs, there is usually a view.  There was a fine, shady spot from which to survey the Cambodian countryside.
